Red Rose hits back in Kent clash

9:31am Friday 20th August 2010

Lancashire hit back against Kent at Canterbury yesterday as they dismissed the hosts for 249 for a 17-run first innings advantage in their County Championship clash at the St Lawrence Ground.

Joe Denly added just one to his overnight 68 but top-scored in a Kent innings which saw six players reach 20 but none go on to dominate the Lancashire attack, for whom Earby’s Glen Chapple and the Pleasington-based Gary Keedy each took four wickets.

Tom Smith (five) and Mark Chilton (seven) fell early as Lancashire replied and Paul Horton got a start before departing for 29.

But the Red Rose closed on 103-3 second time around, with an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 51 between West Indian Test star Shivnarine Chanderpaul (23 not out) and Steven Croft (38 not out) helping them to an overall advantage of 120 ahead of the third day.
